Best trading journal apps for Indian traders in 2026

We checked nine trading journals for what Indian traders ask first: does it sync my Zerodha or Upstox account, does it handle NSE F&O, and what does it cost in rupees. Every broker claim below comes from the vendor’s own website.

We make TradeLyser, which is one of the journals on this page. To keep it fair, every competitor claim links to the vendor’s own page, each card says where that journal is the better pick, and two other journals match TradeLyser on Zerodha and Upstox auto-sync.

Quick answer

Start from how and what you trade. Each pick links to the details below.

You trade NSE F&O or intraday through Zerodha or Upstox

An auto-sync journal: TradeLyser, TradeTalez or TradesViz

These three list Zerodha and Upstox auto-sync on their own sites. Choose by what you want after the sync: a guided weekly review (TradeLyser), story-first journaling (TradeTalez) or build-your-own analytics (TradesViz).

How journals get your Zerodha trades

There are two routes. Auto-sync connects through Zerodha’s Kite API after you log in and approve access, then pulls new trades for you. File import uses the tradebook you download from Zerodha Console (Reports, then Tradebook) and upload yourself.

Auto-sync saves the weekly export, but Kite access expires and has to be approved again. Journals handle this differently: TradeLyser shows the connection status and asks you to log in again when a pull fails, and TradeTalez’s broker page says to sync once a day.

File import works with any journal that accepts your file, but you repeat it every week, and Indian F&O symbols in a generic CSV often need manual mapping before stats are right.

Zerodha setup guide for TradeLyser

Check before you commit

  • Options and futures import with the right expiry and strike
  • MIS, NRML and CNC trades stay separate
  • Charges come through, so P&L is net and not gross
  • How far back the first sync or import goes
  • What happens when access expires mid-week

How journals get your Upstox trades

Upstox also has an API that journals use for auto-sync. TradeLyser, TradeTalez and TradesViz list it. Other journals rely on an Upstox report downloaded and uploaded as a file; TraderSync documents this as a CSV upload.

The trade-offs match Zerodha’s: auto-sync needs re-approval from time to time, and a file import needs repeating and checking each week.

Upstox setup guide for TradeLyser

Check before you commit

  • Upstox is named on the journal’s own broker list, not just “any CSV”
  • F&O contracts import with expiry and lot size intact
  • Delivery and intraday trades are kept apart
  • The journal tells you clearly when access needs reconnecting

Beyond Zerodha and Upstox

An auto-sync journal

Daily trade counts make weekly CSV work a chore. Pick TradeLyser, TradeTalez or TradesViz and spend the time on review.

Auto-sync with charge-aware P&L

Brokerage and STT on every leg decide whether a strategy pays. Check that charges come through with each trade.

Any auto-sync journal, or a template

Fewer trades means a template can work. Move to a journal when you want setup-level stats.

Mentor with students

TradeLyser Pro (Mentor Hub)

Review up to five mentees’ synced journals in rupees. TradeZella’s Mentor Mode is the US$ alternative.

Data-heavy power user

TradesViz

How we evaluated

The same five checks we use on every comparison page, weighted toward Indian broker data.

  1. Check 1

    Broker and market fit

Does it sync your broker (Zerodha, Dhan, Angel One, Upstox and others) with correct lots, MIS or NRML, and charges?

In India: US-first journals often need CSV fixes every week, and one bad import skews expectancy and drawdown.

  2. Check 2

    Data accuracy

Is P&L shown net of STT, brokerage and taxes, not just gross?

In India: Indian charges add up. A review built on gross P&L can lead to the wrong size and setup decisions.

  3. Check 3

    Review workflow

Does it support setup tags, a weekly review and one change at a time, or does it only store trades?

In India: Storing trades without a weekly review rarely changes results. Improvement comes from the review.

  4. Check 4

    Analytics depth

Can you filter by strategy tag, symbol and session, and see expectancy, drawdown and equity curve per setup?

In India: Win rate alone misleads on small samples. Setup-level stats across expiry weeks tell you more.

  5. Check 5

    Total cost

Plan price plus the hours spent importing, fixing tags and rebuilding reports each month.

In India: A cheaper plan that costs two hours a week in CSV work is not cheaper at 50 or more trades a month.

Test two journals on the same month of trades

Marketing pages all look good. Your own trades settle it in two weeks.

  1. Export your last 30 days of trades from your broker, or connect AutoSync in TradeLyser. Use the same dates for any journal you test.
  2. Load both journals: TradeLyser through AutoSync, the other through its import. Tag setups the same way in both.
  3. Run one weekly review in each with the same checklist: rule breaks, best and worst trade, strategy stats and one change for next week. Time each review.
  4. Keep the journal that gave you a clearer Monday action with less manual clean-up.

Questions Indian traders ask

Which trading journal apps sync with Zerodha automatically?

TradeLyser, TradeTalez and TradesViz list Zerodha auto-sync on their own websites. TraderSync imports Zerodha trades from a CSV upload. TradeZella and Chartlog list Zerodha as coming soon, Edgewonk’s import list shows an entry we could not confirm, and Tradervue and StonkJournal do not name Zerodha.

Which trading journals support Upstox?

TradeLyser, TradeTalez and TradesViz list Upstox auto-sync, and TraderSync supports an Upstox CSV upload. TradeZella, Tradervue and StonkJournal accept only a generic CSV, and Edgewonk and Chartlog do not list Upstox.

Is Zerodha Console a trading journal?

No. Console gives you the tradebook, P&L and tax reports, which are the raw records. A journal adds setup tags, notes, rule tracking and a weekly review on top of those trades. Many traders use Console for tax and a journal for improving their trading.

Is there a free trading journal app for Indian traders?

TradesViz has a free plan for stocks (3,000 executions a month); its options and futures support is on the paid plans. StonkJournal has a free plan with manual entry. TradeLyser offers a free trial, and the free Excel templates work well under about 20 trades a month.

Is it safe to connect my Zerodha or Upstox account to a journal?

Auto-sync uses the broker’s official login and API, and you approve the access. TradeLyser’s connection is read-only: it reads trades and cannot place, modify or cancel orders. For any app, check what access it asks for before you approve, and revoke it from your broker if you stop using the app.

Why does my Zerodha sync need reconnecting?

Broker API access expires and has to be approved again. TradeLyser shows the connection status and asks you to log in again when a pull fails, and TradeTalez’s broker page says to sync Zerodha once a day. Reconnect before your weekly review so no trading days go missing.

Can I move my history from one journal to another?

Usually the cleanest route is your broker’s own history: export the tradebook from Zerodha Console or your Upstox reports, import it into the new journal, then turn on auto-sync for new trades. Check that trade counts and P&L match before you rely on the new journal.

How current is this comparison?

Competitor broker support was checked on each company’s own website on 20 October 2026, and prices come from their public pricing pages. Integrations change often, so confirm on the vendor’s site before you buy.

How this page is researched and kept current

  • Each competitor’s Zerodha, Upstox and Indian broker support was checked on its own website (broker lists, import docs and help centre) on 20 Oct 2026. Third-party reviews were not counted.
  • Where a vendor page was unclear, we say so instead of guessing.
  • Prices are list prices from each company’s public pricing page. US$ prices are shown as listed.
  • We re-check this page every quarter, or sooner when a vendor changes its broker support.
  • Spotted something out of date? Write to us through the contact page and we will check and correct it.
